When and
why did you join NAWBO?
I joined in June 2006
because I relocated to Dallas. NAWBO was suggested by a potential client.
Committee
involvement: Not yet, but I will.
Impact
NAWBO has had on your business or professional development: It hasn’t, to this point. However, I have benefited immensely throughout my career from the experiences shared by other women business owners/executives. I feel this will happen through my active NAWBO participation.
The best advice you've received:
Best Advice #1: “Not everyone who has a mentor is successful and everyone who is successful has a mentor” --from my Mentor.
Best Advice #2: “Never complete a conversation without some reference to your business.” --from the first woman V.P. with whom I spoke…long ago and far away.
Advice or strategies: One of my favorite topics these days is the successful management of “high maintenance employees/clients/partners/others.” There probably isn’t enough room here…perhaps in another venue?
What
brings you joy in your work? 1) Working with clients to demonstrate that what they wish for can actually happen. 2) Being in a constant learning mode.
What brings
you joy in your personal life? Or What are your interests/hobbies? Family, Friends, Furry Companions, Hiking, Reading, Museums, Computers/Technology, Food, Wine…I could go on for hours…Team/Group Dynamics, Business Turnarounds/Transitions, Leadership Enhancement, Technology, Senior Citizens, Animal Support, Hiking, Visiting National Parks, World Travel, Volunteering…
Charity support: In my previous location, I volunteered in Alzheimers Facilities and Animal Rescue Projects. Also, I donated a significant amount of professional time to not-for-profit Staff Development.
Other organizations:
Yes. I’ve joined several, including: Greater Dallas Chamber, Women Connecting Women, Association of Women in Technology, ToastMasters, Turtle Creek Organization, Dallas Heritage Village, Arboretum…and I’ve applied for the 2007 Leadership Dallas class.
Book recommendations: Silos, Politics and Turf Wars by Patrick Lencioni, The Consultative Approach by Virginia LaGrossa and Suzanne Saxe, and Waiting for Your Cat to Bark by Bryan Eisenberg, Jeffrey Eisenberg, and Lisa T. Davis
What else would you like your
NAWBO chapter and members to know about you? I am really enjoying Dallas and am pleased that I made the move from California.
