When and
why did you join NAWBO?
I joined in June, 2005 to meet and learn from other professional
women.
Committee
involvement: Not yet.
Impact
NAWBO has had on your business or professional development: I am anticipating a great deal of
impact, but have only been a member for a few months. In those
few months, however, I am most impressed with the energy level,
creativity and drive of all of the women that I have met.
The best advice you've received:
Anything and everything is possible. It seems like a NAWBO
mantra.
Advice or strategies: If
you treat every customer as you want to be treated and pay great
attention to detail, success is yours.
What
brings you joy in your work? Giving children and
adults, who have not been exposed to art, other than paintings,
a new view and showing them how to see things differently. Also,
seeing great joy on my customers faces when a piece is installed.
What brings
you joy in your personal life? Or What are your interests/hobbies? I have a wonderful and supportive
family and friends. I have six childrenone of which is my
Phantom Poodle, Roxy, and Peety, my 16 year old, uppity kitty,
both of which live with me at home. And then I have four 3-year
old kittiesRed, White, Blue, and Treetop, all who were left
motherless at my gallery. (I have a transient motel next door
to me, so I sometimes tease about trying to keep up with the 'Cathouse'
next door).
My interests include art, theatre,
dance, opera, reading and travel.
Charity support: I support
several charities . . . Cancer Care Services, the Food Bank, Women's
Haven, Animal Shelters, Aids Interfaith, the Warm Place, Carter
Blood Care, the Red Cross plus nonprofits such as the Jubilee
Theatre, Bruce Wood Dance Company, Circle Theatre, Stage West,
Texas Camarata, the Fort Worth Opera, places of worship and many
others.
I donate my gallery and sculpture
garden for non-profits to have parties, business meetings and
fundraisers. I give sculpture pieces for raffles. Because so many
of my sculptures are created from found objects (found objects
are what most people call junk!) I facilitate Bible Schools at
my gallery and talk about "Trash to Treasure". I also give of
my time and money because I have been so blessed. It only seems
right to pass those blessings on.
Other organizations:
Yes, many of those of which I have mentioned previously and Historic
Camp Bowie, Inc and the Fort Worth Chamber. I will say that this
past year, I have not been as pro active in these organizations
because I just needed a break. However, I, certainly, continue
to support them financially and am ready to jump back into things
next year.
Book recommendations:
I love "Harry Potter". It's so much about friendship and loyalty.
What else would you like your
NAWBO sisters to know about you? I love to laugh. I really
try to live life to the fullest and don't try to take myself too
seriously.
