All-Council Event - Remembering Louise Raggio Mar 10 11:15am-1:00pm

RSVP

Join us in remembering Louise Raggio, who recently passed 1/23/11.  Also known as the “Texas Tornado”, this amazing woman and attorney dedicated her life to women’s rights.  Her best-known accomplishment was the passage of the Marital Property Act of 1967 which helped married women to manage their own property, borrow money from banks in their own right, and establish financial discussions without having the presence of her husband.  Before the act, married women in Texas had fewer rights than single women and very limited property rights.  She was the recipient of many distinguished awards during her lifetime including the Gilian Rudd Award from NAWBO (2000) and Fortune Magazine: One of Fifteen Heroes in Hall of Fame (2000).

Our keynote speaker will be Maj. General Mary Saunders (Ret.), the first female general officer selected at the director of Transportation in the Air Force.  She will discuss how her military training helped prepare her for leadership opportunities and sharpened her skills in negotiations.  She will reveal the differences in having high-stake conversations between men and women, share stories from her military background and offer insight on how globalization will impact the way we do business moving forward and how women can position themselves to be part of the opportunities that lie ahead.
